The institute of Health Policy & Management (see www.ibmg.eur.nl) is part of the Medical and Health Sciences Faculty of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. It is a multidisciplinary institute employing over 150 persons, with different disciplinary backgrounds, including health economics, health sciences, medicine, psychology, health law and sociology. The institute offers a bachelor program on Health Policy and Management, a Master in Health Care Management and a Master in Health Economics, Policy & Law. Its research is centred around three themes: (i) Competition and regulation in health care; (ii) Quality and efficiency in health care and (iii) Management and organization of health care delivery. These themes are investigated from different disciplinary angles. The section Health Economics & institute for Medical Technology is the largest section within the institute with over 60 employees. The research is led by 5 professors on health economics and health technology assessment. The group has much experience performing economic evaluations in health care, also of complex interventions. It has evaluated amongst others breast cancer screening, disease management programs, preventive interventions and orphan drugs. The group is highly productive: the Erasmus University Rotterdam was recently ranked 2nd in Europe (11th worldwide) in the field of health economics, based on citations. Besides performing economic evaluations, the institute has significantly contributed to the methodology of performing these evaluations. The institute has coordinated and participated several EU funded projects.
